Originally from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Valentina Rodriguez has been living in New York City for three years pursing a medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. After completing her third year of medical school, Rodriguez decided to trade in her scalpel for a pen. She is a student at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she covers issues related to medicine and health care in East Harlem.
She intends to return to medical school to complete her final year after graduating from journalism school. She would like to pursue a residency in obstetrics and gynecology upon graduation and dedicate herself to writing about women’s health.
When she is not at school, Rodriguez enjoys watching horror films, cooking and visiting her family in South Florida.

Interesting and incisive piece on epidemic preventable disease. Like the rich marketplace reds and greens, you provide vivid examples of the faces of economic disease: the thrifty genome in postmodern society.
Congratulations Valentina, you are awe inspiring.
